The Senior Applications Engineer will be responsible for selecting appropriate technologies and equipment/components to develop technically sound and competitive proposals based on customer specifications.
This individual has extensive knowledge of complex water treatment equipment and associated costing, sizing, and process design.
This role reports to the Engineering Manager but is able to function independently almost all of the time, while also providing instruction and guidance to less-experienced team members.
Specific Job Function: Work with the sales engineers, customers and other stakeholders in establishing/defining job requirements and bid strategies.
Leverage technical expertise to proactively guide commercial efforts, including accurate win probability and appropriate effort required.
Prepare equipment specifications and determine accurate costs for RFQ’s.
Extract necessary/relevant information from highly technical written specifications and other customer documents.
This includes process requirements, designs, guarantees, liabilities, regulatory compliance, code compliance, etc.
Perform and interpret RO projections; analyze/size pumps and pipes for flow rates, pressure drops, etc.
for water treatment equipment.
Create preliminary PFD’s and P&ID’s as needed.
Develop complete process designs and preliminary electrical and mechanical designs for equipment.
Create professional proposal packages for submittal to customers Provide pre- and post-sale technical support to Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, Dealers and Customers.
Take on the role of a key technical expert.
Work with engineering to update design standards and procedures as needed.
All tasks described above involve complex equipment/processes and project values exceeding $1M and can be performed without assistance.
Proactively train, mentor, and review work produced by other team members.
Lead efforts of department interns as assigned.
Own large department initiatives outside of normal AE duties, and contribute to vision/strategy to create new initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: BS in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering preferred, other STEM degrees acceptable.
A positive, customer-focused, problem-solving attitude.
5+ years related experience including processing applications, hydro-mechanical process systems design, preferably with projects up to and exceeding $1M.
Demonstrated experience with PFD development including fluid flow controls.
Demonstrated leadership/mentoring of other team members.
Experience with selecting, sizing, and pricing systems for process and drinking water treatment, waste water treatment, reverse osmosis processes and membrane filtration systems applications.
