Major Responsibilities:
Monitors and assesses operating room resources (personnel, equipment, and rooms) in order to efficiently orchestrate the correct set-up for surgical procedures.
Communicates with patient care units regarding changes/openings in schedule.
Coordinates operating room resources to accommodate unscheduled and emergency surgical procedures.
Responsible for expediting surgery schedule as it relates to both elective and non-elective procedures.
Monitors employee assignments; maintains staff scheduling, evaluates staffing levels and makes adjustments as necessary to maintain productivity level established for assigned area(s).
Promotes communication and serves as a clinical resource for patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members.
Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
Evaluates the quality of patient care provided through collaboration with unit and organization resource people.
Assures policies and procedures are in compliance with those of the medical center, the nursing department, and regulatory agencies.
Provides direct patient care by performing the nursing process, guided by policies, procedures and standards, to deliver safe, therapeutic, quality patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale.
Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Advocate Aurora Health Care Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Advocate Aurora's business
Education/Experience Required:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Typically requires 3 years of experience in nursing within an operating room or surgical services.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Advanced clinical and technical knowledge of the surgery, endoscopy, and pre-operative and post-operative areas.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills necessary.
Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and CNOR required within 6 months of hire.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during work shift.
Will be exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids.
Will be required to wear gloves, goggles, and gowns on an as-needed basis.
Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
