Job Summary:
BB&E is seeking a Fire Protection Engineering Technician to Support the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic program
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support for an office of fire protection engineers performing design of new and modification to existing; fire alarm and combination fire alarm/ mass notification systems, water-based suppression systems including wet pipe, dry pipe and pre-action systems with nitrogen generators, foam systems and fire pumps, special hazard systems such as clean agent suppression including air sampling detection and releasing controls.
Responsibilities also include production of code analysis and summary drawings addressing Unified Facilities Criteria, Life Safety Code and International Building Code compliance.
Typical facility projects include administration, educational, industrial, research and testing, storage, hospitals, communications, computer/IT, command and control, dry docks, military training, simulators, hangars, and residential facilities.
Infrastructure projects include water supply and base wide fire alarm reporting systems.
Coordinate activities with design managers and other engineering disciplines and architects to ensure that final detailed working drawings, specifications, and RFPs are properly integrated.
Assist with site investigation/ field trips to collect all pertinent data necessary to develop project scope and perform design support such as inspection of existing conditions by taking measurements and testing systems, fire pumps and water supplies.
Job Qualifications and Skills:
Proficiency in REVIT and AutoCAD is required.
Must be capable of operating Microsoft Office products, fire protection engineering design tools (AutoSPRINK, HASS) and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command.
Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices as related to fire protection engineering design.
Examples include UFC 3-600-01, NFPA Codes and Standards including NFPA 13, 72 and 101 (Life Safety Code) and the International Building Code.
Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts.
Knowledge of budgeting, planning and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams.
Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance, and use of personal protective equipment.
Experience:
A minimum of 7 years of experience is required preferably in the field of fire protection engineering technology drafting facility design drawings using AutoDesk applications including REVIT and producing specifications.
Education:
NICET Certification in the design of fire alarms, water-based suppression and/or special hazard systems is highly desired.
Physical Requirements:
Lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.
Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
Working conditions:
Ability to work both indoor/outdoor (with exposure to the elements)
Ability to walk/climb/knee/crouch and reach
Ability to work on rough terrain when necessary
Exposure to hazards/contaminants at times
Ability to work in confined spaces and/or heights
Ability to wear the required PPE
