This is a full-time, exempt position as a Principal Wetland Specialist with the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC).
This position is responsible for various environmental-related project management activities to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
This position performs work of considerable difficulty applying project management and environmental knowledge and skills to stormwater infrastructure projects.
The position includes technical and administrative work and involves the development of plans, studies and projects; the pursuit and administration of grants; and project management services for SMC’s capital improvement program.
Under general direction from the Capital Improvement Program Manager, this Principal Wetland Specialist position is responsible for the following:
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Acts as project manager/coordinator for studies, plans and projects to reduce and prevent flooding and manage stormwater quality, including preliminary and final design phases, field inspection, construction management oversight, and post-construction maintenance and monitoring.
Coordinate with and manage the activities of environmental consultants, inspectors, contractors, and federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including providing expertise in wetland restoration, creation, enhancement, and maintenance of wetlands, including wetland mitigation banking.
Schedules and conducts meetings, summarizes technical information on a variety of environmental issues including wetlands, soil, plant and hydric conditions and construction requirements concerning land disturbance activities and project scheduling.
Manage grants, consultant and construction contracts for stormwater infrastructure projects, work includes proposal development, contract award, contract development, contract management, tracking critical path items as well as overall project management.
Organize and manage project documentation, analyze data, manage preliminary and final design projects, review constructability of plan sets, review pay estimates and invoices, and review plans for code conformance.
Provides outreach and communications to the SMC Board, the public stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and other government entities.
Performs related work as required.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The primary responsibility of this position will be supporting all aspects of the Stormwater Management Commission’s Capital Improvement Program.
Employment duration is subject to availability of program funding.
