The Opportunity This position works out of our Abbott Park (Lake Bluff), IL location in the Core Lab Division.
Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe.
The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments and informatics systems are often the first step in patient care decision making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
As the Specialist Manufacturing Technician – Lab Operations, you’ll produce high quality diagnostic assay components in a GMP regulated environment.
What You’ll Work On Manufactures diagnostic assay components such as Antigen Fermentation/Purification; Tissue Culture; Solutions; and/or Purifications.
Manufactures in highly regulated specialized facilities using complex equipment and systems.
Manufacturing and related activities must be documented with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
Uses Abbott manufacturing information systems (SAP) while performing manufacturing process steps.
Applies GMP; Bioburden reduction; and safety procedures.
After completion of initial training, maintains at least one manufacturing certification.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Manufactures diagnostic assay components in areas such as Antigen Production; Tissue Culture; Solutions; and/or Purifications.
Works with Potentially Biohazardous or Biohazardous material using required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Performs routine maintenance and GMP activities while complying with GMP/ ISO requirements.
Demonstrates knowledge and practical application of EHS policies, procedures, and practices through personal work habits.
Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
Applies basic computer skills including word processing; spreadsheets; instrumentation related; and Abbott network systems.
Communicates effectively with coworkers and management.
Understands critical areas impacting manufacturing: Problem Resolution; Corrective and Preventive Actions; Change Control; Error Reduction; Document Improvements; Safety; Process Improvements; new process implementation; Cost Containment and Control; GMP; Inventory Control; Compliance; Training and Skills Enhancement of others.
Performs transactions in Abbott manufacturing information systems (SAP) and Work Order Tracking Tool (WOTT) Systems as required on time.
Troubleshoots and resolves basic manufacturing problems and operational issues with assistance, as necessary.
Supports group/team activities and departmental goals.
Obtains and maintains required manufacturing certifications.
Uses supplies effectively and aware of material cost and limits waste.
Develops knowledge of processes and technologies.
Participates in identifying manufacturing documentation change control recommendations at a basic level.
Follow established procedures and guidelines to form a variety of simple, manual tasks that form part of a production process.
Load materials into production machines.
Remove, pack, and sort raw materials or finished products.
Collect, and dispose of garbage and production waste according to the organization’s waste removal and recycling policies.
Clean production equipment and work areas.
Required Qualifications Bachelors Degree in a scientific or technical discipline is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Some related work experience.
Preferred Qualifications Laboratory, verbal and written communication skills, basic scientific knowledge, basic mathematics, and basic computer skills.
Highly desirable experience includes participation in teams, GMP/ISO requirements, and basic computer/data management.
Solution/Chemical handling, Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.
Displays the ability to learn basic techniques and methods used to manufacture probe based diagnostic products including operations such as solution prep, chemical dispensing, DNA extractions and DNA formulation.
1 – 2 (+) years’ experience with Fermentation is a plus.
Excel Some familiarity with use of electronic systems and databases used for resource planning, inventory management and document control.
Able to accurately follow complex technical instructions.
Has the capability to work effectively as part of a team.
Job requires regular movement between workstations and routine lifting of heavy materials.
High degree of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination is needed.

The base pay for this position is $19.
10 – $37.
90 per hour.
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
