Location: Pleasant_Prairie, WI Shift: [[Shift]] Pay Rate: [[custom_Min]] – [[custom_Max]] Southwire Job Description The principle objective is to oversee and do the design and develop of electrical & electronic wire and cable products, cord & cord set products as well oversee engineering and QA activities in the consumer products area in an efficient and timely manner.
• Designs should accommodate customer, design and application requirements incorporating our philosophy of quality, safety and reliability with zero electrical/mechanical defects.
• Supervise group of product engineers to facilitate accurate and quick turnaround on specials and new products.
• The position also oversees electronic product activities for the consumer market.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that is compatible with customers, clients, co-workers and supervisors.
Job Requirements: PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Work with product managers and engineering to design, develop and cost new products and modifications to existing products.
Ensure that designs meet all requirements including, form-fit function, safety, reliability and code.
• Work with vendors, as is necessary, to validate the performance and functionality of products manufactured by outside vendors to Southwire requirements as well as to develop purchasing specifications for such product.
• Develop customer/product data sheets and drawings.
• Develop Purchasing Specifications for current and future Southwire utilized raw materials, including, but not limited to copper, compounds, tapes and filler materials.
• Responsible for transition of design information between the customer/customer service/product costing and manufacturing.
• When necessary meet with customers, outside sales representatives, suppliers (and potential suppliers), standards groups and others to provide engineering support and/or information.
• Develop and research new materials to enhance Southwire’s existing products as well as new product innovation and design.
• Work with manufacturing and product managers on new designs and with listing agencies, such as UL, CSA, ETL, MIL, etc.
, to coordinate approval activity.
• Work with product managers, manufacturing, purchasing and sales to identify and execute product improvements and cost reductions PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS • A basic working knowledge of electronic circuits is desirable to work with engineering personnel and vendors in the consumer products area.
• Must be familiar with MS Office® (Excel® and Word®) as well as AutoCAD® Light, and Microsoft Project.
• Knowledge of AS400 Computer Systems is a plus.
• Experience with wire and cable manufacturing including cabling, extrusion, packaging operations and tooling design a plus.
• Knowledge of bills of material and routings helpful.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: • 3 to 5 years, experience in the wire and cable industry, specifically in a supervisory and leadership role with demonstrated accomplishments in advanced project management, supervising remote employees as well as experience leading and directing a diverse group of professionals.
