Establish a comprehensive pre-K through 12 curriculum, instruction and assessment program that promotes college, career, and citizenship readiness for all students and aligns to state and Common Core standards, the district’s vision, and teaching and learning initiatives as they relate to multilingual education and instruction.
Coordinate the development, review, and revision of all multilingual programs and related curriculum documents and materials, including standards documents, curriculum guides/learning progressions, course outlines, and instructional materials and resources.
Lead curriculum vertical teams for all levels and all multilingual programs.
Plan, improve, and oversee district curriculum, curriculum-based assessments the instructional delivery system and assessment of multilingual students.
Maintain knowledge of best practices and have on file appropriate publications and supplementary materials relevant to curricular program for multilingual students.
?nvolve building leaders and instructional staff in evaluating curriculum, instruction, and assessment programming to improve student achievement for multilingual learners.
Involve instructional staff in evaluating, selecting, and creating instructional materials for comprehensibility, inclusivity, accuracy, and appropriateness for multilingual students to learn expected grade-level standards Maintain, electronically or otherwise, the comprehensive pre-K through 12 curriculum materials for district-wide multilingual programs.
Create a long-term strategic plan that operationalizes district goals to increase student achievement for multilingual students.
Assist with the design, implementation, and evaluation of multi-tiered systems of support for dual language and English language development programs.
Strengthen efforts and plans to ease the transition from upper elementary to middle school, from middle school to high school, and from high school to post-secondary opportunities including transitions to college, the workforce, and/or vocational or technical education as well as transitions from newcomer programs to part-time programs to transitioning out of language support services.
Implement a system for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of pre-K – 12 multilingual programs to improve student achievement, achieve bilingualism and biliteracy, address gaps in student achievement, prepare students to be college and career ready in specific content areas, and align to all district and Board initiatives with regard to student achievement.
Compile and present regular reports reflecting current multilingual student performance and/or other related data in accurate, usable formats for a variety of purposes and audiences Obtain and use student achievement data to examine the effectiveness of curriculum and instruction for the purpose of addressing the learning needs of multilingual students and implementing changes based on analysis of this data.
Establish and manage a consistent, on-going data collection system for assessment data, including both standardized and local assessments.
Make recommendations based on data for the improvement of the curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs for multilingual students.
Collect and analyze results to determine instructional strengths, weaknesses, and trends in the district’s multilingual and English language development programs.
Conduct school visits, walk-throughs, informal observations, and meetings to monitor and ensure district curriculum and instructional methodologies are effective for the linguistic and academic advancement of multilingual students.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of testing data and analysis for self and relevant staff regarding all statewide and local assessments (criterion-referenced and norm-referenced) required of students in the district.
Collaborate with SILT teams, vertical alignment teams, and building teaching and learning administrators to analyze school data and recommend improvements in the instructional program to improve student achievement for multilingual learners.
Work with the Director of Professional Learning, the Talent Development Coordinator, and Instructional Technology coaches to facilitate the effective integration of technology in classroom practices.
Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments at the state and national levels in the field of multilingual education.
Observe instruction and provide feedback and assistance to multilingual educators to facilitate improvement and innovation and to identify areas of needed professional learning.
Improve the effectiveness of PLCs as it relates to instruction of multilingual learners.
Working with the Director of Professional Growth and Support, develop and conduct or arrange for the implementation of timely and relevant professional learning within the classroom and during professional development sessions to promote a district-based professional community to improve instruction.
Develop, implement, manage, monitor, and evaluate a wide range of professional development for multilingual programs, English language development instruction and cultural awareness for administrators, teachers, parent professional and families.
Provide professional development and demonstrations / model lessons to whole classes, small groups, or individuals – both formally and informally.
Provide professional development and support for all district instructional staff including coaches, lead teachers or department chairs, and district interventionists and administrators on an on-going basis for the purpose of supporting student achievement of multilingual students.
Work with district teaching and learning to establish and implement guidelines and expectations for the work of district coaches.
Work directly with teachers and students in a classroom setting with emphasis on students and schools that do not meet growth targets.
Establish, extend and maintain a deep understanding of content theories and issues through personal professional development opportunities including conferences, seminars, workshops, and professional organizations.
Establish a personal professional growth plan that will facilitate improved teaching and learning pedagogy as a resource for other district personnel Establish and maintain effective relationships the Regional Office of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education, other school districts, university faculty, governmental agencies, and professional management associations to keep abreast of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and standards governing multilingual education pre-K – 12.
Network with other educators specializing in the field of multilingual education to develop, implement, and research best practices and innovations.
Stay current with policies, research, issues and current trends, and technology related to the teaching and learning of content and best practices for curriculum, instruction, and assessment for multilingual learners.
Keep informed of and ensure all multilingual programs and services, policies and practices are in compliance with federal, state and local statues, district, and school regulations and policies for English learners.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
Assist in identifying and providing resources and materials to all relevant staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of language programs and services and to accomplish program goals.
Assist in the preparation of the budget and administration of the budget for supplies, equipment, and facilities in Teaching and Learning.
Assist with identifying, applying for, and coordinating grants development, implementation, and budget management.
Provide resources and materials to support staff in accomplishing program goals.
Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental programs, equipment, and supplies for language acquisition and content achievement including technology and online learning programs.
Assist with compiling budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Work cooperatively with and provide leadership and support to directors and other subject area coordinators, building administrators, instructional specialists, and coaches in developing and supervising multilingual programs.
Actively collaborate with the district instructional leadership team and other district and building personnel to establish a coherent District plan.
Meet with principals and assistant principals for curriculum and instruction, intervention teams, MTSS teams, and grade-level teams to develop school / district events, to develop instructional strategies to meet district strategic plan goals, to report on progress, and to plan clear, collaborative, and strategic goals for the enhancement of student achievement and keep building leadership informed.
Collaborate with all administration to recruit and hire diverse and highly qualified multilingual teacher candidates.
Coordinate summer school programming for multilingual students including the development of curriculum and necessary instructional materials and supplies and support building administrators in the selection of key personnel.
