Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Educational Safety Administrator (ESA) will be directly responsible to the Director of Crisis Intervention and Safety for all matters pertaining to the operation of the school plan, in-building administrative and personnel procedures, and general or district-wide policies.
He/she will be indirectly responsible to the building Principal and to the Deputy Superintendent of Operational Support and Programs for all matters pertaining to enforcing the safety rules of Waukegan Public Schools and ensure the safety of the learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Duties of this position: 1.
Scheduling safety personnel and extra hours/overtime assignments and recording same for payroll and deployment.
2.
Management of technical projects and act as a liaison between the district and contractors and reporting project flow to the director.
3.
Manage, schedule, and record safety personnel training and documenting same in accordance with federal, state and local mandates.
4.
On-boarding of new district safety personnel.
5.
Manage technical training of all district personnel as it relates to safety systems.
6.
Additional administrative duties as directed by the Director of Safety.
Additional Responsibilities: 1.
Supervise and evaluate safety staff.
2.
Provide an authoritative presence in assigned school(s), in order to work with the educational team to enforce safety rules.
3.
Maintain a close working relationship with school administration, teaching staff, and auxiliary personnel to promote a safe learning environment.
4.
Abide by school board policies and shall consult with and coordinate activities through the school principal.
5.
Assist in presenting various subjects including but not limited to school drug abuse prevention education, gang awareness, etc.
6.
Encourage individual and small group discussions about school safety related matters with students, faculty, and parents.
7.
Attend meetings of parent and faculty groups to solicit their support and understanding of the School Safety programs and to promote awareness of school functions.
8.
Serve as a member of the school Student Services Committee and will be familiar with all community agencies, which offer assistance to youths and their families such as gang intervention, mental health clinics, drug treatment centers, etc.
9.
Confer with the principal and Director of Safety to develop plans and strategies to prevent and/or minimize dangerous situations on or near the campus or involving students at school-related activities.
10.
Serve as a member of the district emergency response team.
11.
Perform any and all duties of a School Safety Officer as needed.
Qualifications: 1.
High School Diploma or GED 2.
A valid driver’s license 3.
Good moral character and the ability to pass background checks.
4.
Law enforcement/Military experience (sworn or non-sworn) 5.
Prior administrative experience helpful 6.
Knowledge on CCTV systems 7.
Previous security of loss control experience helpful 8.
Good physical and mental health 9.
Good communication skills and professional conduct 10.
Good computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint 11.
